India tells LTTE to disarm and surrender 16/02/2009
Indias Home Minister P. Chidambaram has emphasised that the LTTE should lay down arms and surrender..
He said the situation in Sri Lanka would not have reached a grave stage in non-liberated areas, had the LTTE used the 48 hour window period declared by the Government to permit civilians to move to safer areas. Addressing a public meeting at Mylapore, Chennai, in the South Indian State, he observed that India cannot directly interfere in the war against the LTTE as India itself had not talked with militant outfits in the North East and Kashmir, who had refused to give up arms. According to the Defence Ministry website, Mr. Chidambaram asserted that before any possible dialogue, the LTTE should give up arms.
